Milan Shrestha earned his Ph.D. in 2007 from the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia. His dissertation, "Smallholders, Mountain Agriculture, and Land Change in Lamjung District, Nepal," focused on agricultural sustainability, land-use and land-cover change, and vulnerability, using remote sensing and GIS techniques as well as ethnographic research. After receiving his Ph.D., he worked in the Lab of Agricultural and Natural Resource Anthropology at University of Georgia and for the National Academies of Science in Washington, D.C. At CAP LTER, he is working with Abby York and Chris Boone on a cross LTER-site research initiative examining land-use and land-cover fragmentation in the Phoenix, Albuquerque, Fort Collins, Las Cruces, and Manhattan, Kansas areas. He will be exploring the roles of transportation networks, water infrastructure, and annexation on fragmentation in the context of housing boom and bust cycles.
