Dear CAP Colleagues,

I am delighted to formally announce the following achievements:

1) Our wonderful web development team has produced a beautiful and functional new web page for CAP LTER. Many thanks go to the GIOS communications team, especially Bryan Barker (web designer), Brian Murphy (web design and programming), and student programmer Sheela Kanwar, and to Marcia Nation, Cindy Zisner, and Stevan Earl for working closely with the team to update content and check for errors and problems. I think it looks great, but as you know web sites only stay current and useful if people continue to feed material to them – so please be sure to send any content (especially research highlights!) or suggestions to Marcia Nation, and of course please be sure to send your data to Phil Tarrant.

2) It’s taken me this long to realize it’s really done, but the CAP renewal proposal was submitted TWO DAYS EARLY and is now in NSF’s hands. I want to thank every one of you for the input you gave, which made the proposal much better than it would otherwise have been. This input started way back in 2008 when we had a retreat, and continued with workshops at last year’s ASM, followed by development of proposed research plans by several teams (thanks to team leaders for this extended effort). I especially am grateful for the top-notch writing team who worked with me to put the ideas together in a coherent way: Chris Boone, Dan Childers, Chuck Redman, and Billie Turner. Several individuals contributed substantially to later drafts, including Sharon Harlan, Paige Warren, Sharon Hall, and Kerry Smith. As always but very much appreciated, the GIOS proposal team came through with excellent copy editing, help with figures, and all of the minutiae associated with submitting such a large proposal; I especially want to recognize Lauren Kuby, Cindy Zisner, Allison Shannon, Diana Rodak, Vince Palermo, and Brenda Shears. Finally, my deep thanks to the CAP LTER management team, Stevan Earl, Monica Elser, Phil Tarrant, and Linda Williams for all of their help, and especially to Marcia Nation, who was intimately involved with virtually every aspect of the preparation of the proposal. Please join me in thanking all of these folks for a job well done – now we wait!

With my best wishes,

Nancy
