The climate of the CAP LTER area is of a desert type with low annual precipitation falling in two distinct seasons and low relative humidity. Sunshine averages 86% of possible and daytime temperatures are high throughout the summer months. The winters are mild. Nighttime temperatures frequently drop below freezing during the three coldest months, with temperatures being marginal for some types of crops.
