The CAP LTER project is a multifaceted study aimed at answering the question: How does the pattern of development of the city alter ecological conditions of the city and its surrounding environment, and vice versa? To answer this question, social, physical, and biological scientists from Arizona State University, together with a host of community partners, are looking collaboratively at the Phoenix urban ecosystem, CAP LTER investigations of land use and ecological consequences in an urban environment were organized into research areas. A particular strength of the US LTER program is consistency of measurement in the five, broad core areas. However, during CAP LTER's ongoing research we have found that organization of projects and working groups under the traditional LTER core areas does not necessarily facilitate interdisciplinary integration. Therefore, we have identified five Integrated Project Areas (IPA), each of which blends life, earth, and social science. The IPAs are as follows: Land-Use and Land Cover Change In addition to the IPAs we continue to conduct: Long-term Monitoring |
