Project Summary:
Our final project was a park bench that was pre-constructed by an intern then reconstructed and painted by the students. On our first field trip to the Rio Salado, even though it was February, the students complained they were hot and tired. When we reviewed the outing the following club meeting, one of the students commented that there should be more places where one can sit and cool off. Since our theme of the semester was the rainbow, we decided to decorate the bench with the handprints of the students in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
Highlights for the year:
Each club focused on a color of the rainbow, and I believe the students enjoyed a “red” day the most. On this day, one of the interns focused his lesson plan around lava and volcanoes. The students were taken outside and were given the chance to build their own volcano and had lots of fun watching them erupt. The lesson grew to be universal when the discussion led to other pressures in the world. The conversation went from the pressure to pass gas to the pressure to do well on a test. |
