Project Summary
Our final project was an interactive native plant identification display. We researched ten native plants, made “fossils” and placed them on top of poles labeled with the plant’s scientific and common names. The yellow, red and blue colors of the poles represent the Arizona state flag and the colors of the fossils represent the sun setting over the land. Science Club’s goal this semester was to make something that looked artistic, but was still educational. The children are hoping people will look for fallen leaves, compare them to the fossils they made, and identify the plant.
Highlights for the year
Over the course of the semester Science Club focused on geological and hydrological processes. We made our own lakes and rivers, learned about watersheds, erosion, sedimentation, and fossil formation. The highlights of this semester were fieldtrips to Rio Salado where the children were able to see many of the processes we learned about, and see the live vegetation they had researched.
