Project Summary:
Our final project was a Rio Salado Nature Quest Game.  We used multi-sensory scavenger hunts to explore both our school yard as well as Rio Salado Park.  After our first visit to the park we used our collective memory of the trip to play Rio Salado Bingo.  These games gave us a starting from which we were able to choose our favorite types of questions to be used in our own game.  Each student created his own game template and we used blind voting to select our favorite aspects of each template to create one.  We then brought our template to Anton Sport to be silk screened onto bandanas.  Our goal was to create something fun to play that would also raise player’s awareness of the uniqueness of Rio Salado Park.

Highlights for the year:
Over the course of the semester Science Club focused on geological and hydrological processes.  We discovered our Colorado River watershed and the many people and species that rely on these waters.  We used pump models to see how our aquifer supplies us with water and made meters to measure our home water consumption.  The highlights of our semester included playing volcano baseball-- which is likely the first and last time that the students will ever be encouraged to build up steam and erupt inside of a classroom.  Also migrating as many birds do down the Colorado River from Wyoming to Mexico was loads of fun, though many of us perished during our first attempt to make wise-bird choices.  Discovering the Volcanoes of Earth and Mars and creating our own edible Mars Rovers was definitely a treat!
