Sunland Elementary - Spring 2005

Facilitator: Jennifer Roberts
Interns: Angela Edwards, Jordan Raphael, Aleighsha Zapata
Teacher Liaison: Lucas Friedman
15 students

Project Summary
Our students have learned heaps of cool facts about birds in our region by researching native species and searching out birds to identify on Sunland’s school grounds. Together our group created a species identification guide which will accompany a decorative rain gauge to present to Rio Salado.

Semester Highlights
We had a great semester with these bright and lively students. A highlight of our semester was designing some incredibly creative and surprisingly strong bridges using paperclips and drinking straws. In fact three out of five of our bridges were strong enough to withstand the toughest test parameter the “intern-induced earthquake”. Our bridge-making activity came just after birding with volunteers from Arizona Audubon at Rio Salado from a shaky Central Ave. bridge.
