Project Summary
Fall 2004 at Sunland started out with a large, enthusiastic group of students in the Science club and whittled itself down to a dedicated and hardworking handful by the end. Among other subjects and projects, these students made their own recycled paper, created their own solar ovens, visited the Rio Salado site and learned about our desert environment, the dangers of pollution and the benefits of recycling and conservation. After these projects the students decided to take on something more and to share their lessons with their community. They decided to paint trash cans with desert and riparian scenes to promote a healthy, clean environment while discouraging litter. These intelligent, committed students spent hours of their own time after school to raise awareness and make their community a better place. The Sunland Science Club members hope that others will follow their example and take the time to help keep their environment clean and make their own neighborhood a more pleasant place to be.
