Project Summary:
The students painted trashcans to add to the Rio Salado, providing a service for visitors to keep the area clean. The students have also identified what trashcans are already there, and where they think others should be placed. They have also looked at what other kinds of things the planners might consider such as benches, lights, and informational signs.
Highlights for the year:
Throughout the semester the students have been learning about the plants and animals at the Rio Salado and our impact on them (recycling and pollution, etc.). Highlights included: building their own edible aquifer, playing a game on plant succession, and using GPS units, digital cameras and GIS software, to incorporate student ideas onto a map of the area.
