Project Summary
Our final projects were concrete stepping stones with tracks from native Arizona animals. The concept of the stepping stones is to increase awareness of the native animals and how restoration ecology can have a positive impact. The stepping stones provide a guide to identification of tracks found near the water. This semester we learned about taxonomy, ethnobotany, map reading and GPS use. A highlight was playing a game with darkened goggles trying to find a styrofoam ball while other students gave out elevation, latitude, and longitude corrections. This game demonstrated how GPS receivers find a position using adjustments from radio signals broadcast from space.
