High School Teacher Summer Internship!!
Opportunity for high school teachers in the greater Phoenix area to bring an ecological research project into their classroom!
Spend two weeks (June18 – June 29, 2007) learning how to conduct ecological studies in your schoolyards and local nature centers, and connecting to the articulated Arizona Department of Education Science Standards. This internship will prepare you to be a part of the Central Arizona Long-Term Ecological Research Project and Ecology Explorers (http://caplter.asu.edu/explorers), a long-term ecological research project being conducted by scientists and schools across the Phoenix Metropolitan Region. You will also be sharing results with teachers from other parts of the country.

Urban and Field Ecology Internship
June 18 – June 29, 2007
9am – 3pm daily (times may vary for field work)
You will learn
- How to conduct ecological studies in your schoolyard and in local nature centers
- How to analyze ecological data
- What ASU scientists are discovering about urban plants & animals
- How to teach about ecosystem complexity with qualitative models
- About urban food webs & nutrient cycles
- To compare your results with teachers from Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico and Puerto Rico
What will the internship include?
- An authentic research project for you and your students to participate in that is aligned to the AZ Education Standards
- Data collection in the field at local nature parks and centers
- Data analysis, statistics, and qualitative modeling
- Linking with teachers and scientists from other states
- 1000.00 stipend
- An on-line Ecology & Field Biology Course for graduate credit
- Additional $250 during the academic year for providing feedback on lessons/activities
- Certificate of 60 professional training hours
