Bug and Bird Banners

Lacking field guides for all students to use, I searched for a way to make
information about native bird species readily available to all students. I came
up with the idea of student created banners that gave the same information
found in the field guide. These banners were hung from the ceiling of the
classroom and used for various identification activities.
The banners were originally made of butcher paper. However, the fire
marshal informed me that they were a fire hazard. I subsequently had
students make them using tag board which was laminated after the banners
were completed. I have adapted this to make "Bug Banners" when my
students were studying arthropods.
