Abstract
Arthropod Trapping Data/Insect Identification:
- To use the Ecology Explorers protocol to teach the scientific
method.
- To involve students in collecting and recording scientific data.
- To expose students to their environment.
- To have students understand the interaction of organisms in the
environment.

AZ Standards
ISC-P1 Propose solutions to practical and theoretical
problems by synthesizing and evaluating information gained from
scientific investigations.
- 1SC-P2 Compare observations of the real world
to observations of a constructed model.
- 1SC-P3 Analyze and evaluate reports of scientific
studies.
- IS-P4 Create and defend a written plan of action
for scientific investigations.
- IS-P6 Identify and define a researchable question,
conduct the experiment, collect and analyze data, share and collect
findings
- 4SC-P1 Use and construct a variety of classification
systems, including evolutionary relationships.
- 4SC-PC Describe and explain how an environment
can affect the number of species and diversity of species in an
environment.
- 2M-P1 Construct and share, inferences including
measures of central tendencies, from real world charts, tables ,
graphs and data plots that summarize data from the real world.
- 2SC-P5 Explain how theory, law and fact are developed
in science to answer a specific question.
- 3SC-P2 Propose and test, using computer software
or common materials, a solution to an existing problem or design
a product, to meet a need using a model or simulation.
Phoenix Union High School District Performance Objectives:
Students will be able to:
- 1.1.01 SWBAT use scientific method to solve a problem.
- 1.1.02 SWBAT analyze a scenario to recognize if
a scientific method is being used correctly.
- 1.1.03 SWBT design and complete a scientific investigation
either individually or as part of a team and report the results
to others.
- 1.1.04 SWBA interpret a graph or table representing
experimental results.
- 1.1.05 SWBA use metric units while making measurements
in the lab.
- 11.06 SWBA use the following equipment to make
measurements in the lab.
