AZ Standards

Science as Inquiry

  • 1SC-E1 Identify a question, formulate a hypothesis, control and manipulate variables, devise experiments, predict outcomes, compare and analyze results, and defend conclusions.
  • 1SC-E3 Organize and present data gathered from their own experiences (schoolyard), using appropriate mathematical concepts, analyses and graphical representations.
  • 1SC-E4 Identify and refine questions from previous investigations.

Life Science

  • 4SC-E1 Construct classification systems based on the structure of organisms.
  • 4SC-E7 Explain and model the interaction and interdependence of living and non-living components of ecosystems, including the adaptation of plants and animals to their environment.

History and Nature of Science

  • 2SC-E3 Provide different explanations for a phenomenon; defend and refute the explanations.

Mathematics

Data Analysis

  • 2M-E1 Construct, read, analyze and interpret tables, charts, graphs and data plots.
  • 2M-E2 Make valid inferences, predictions and arguments based on statistical analysis.
  • 2M-E3 Display and use measures of range of data and central tendency.

Measurement and Discrete Mathematics

  • 5M-E1 Estimate, and make and use measurements to describe and make comparisons.
  • 5M-E3 Estimate, use and describe measures of distance, perimeter, area.

Geography

  • 3SS-E3 Demonstrate understanding of the characteristics, purposes, and use of geographic tools to locate and analyze information about people, places, and environments.
  • 3SS-E7 Explain the effects of interactions between human and natural systems, including the changes in the meaning, use, and distribution of natural resource.

Technology

  • 3T-E2 Use a variety of technology tools for data collection and analysis.
  • 4T-E3 Collaboratively use telecommunications and online resources.

Writing

  • W-E1 Use correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar and usage, along with varied sentence structure and paragraph organization, to complete effectively a variety of writing tasks.
  • W-E5 Write a report that conveys a point of view and develops a topic with appropriate facts, details, examples and descriptions from a variety of cited sources.

Reading

  • R-E1 Use structural analysis skills such as identifying root words, prefixes, suffixes and word origins to decode words unfamiliar in print
  • R-E5 Evaluate an instructional manual such as assembly directions or user's guide for clarity and completeness.
